Excellent product!!! Easily eliminates the amount of people needed and speeds up the time to put up hardi boards. This was one of the best purchases I've made for doing a specific project. It made the job easier, quicker, precise, and less hands were needed. The first hardi board still had to be installed with 2 people holding the board at the popped chalk line we made, to make sure the board was put on level. After that first board along the bottom, away you could go with only 1 or 2 people (no further chalk lines needed). I would highly recommend this to anyone installing hardi boards. I installed 8 1/4" hardi boards. I believe these gauges do not work on the 12" hardi boards, but does work for boards smaller than 12" in width.

Useful but with flaws - Robin Bernstein -
Never heard of siding gauges until I looked into products for installing cement board siding. They seemed an ideal product for the task and we decided to get the PacTool Gecko Gauge. They are certainly easy to use, but given their limited purpose, we were disappointed with a couple of things: when the gauge is clamped in place, the top pulls away from the siding leaving a gap wide enough for the board it is supporting to slide behind the gauge. The board won't fall down, but it is annoying if it happens before you get the first couple of nails in. This compounds the second drawback which is that adjustments in the height of the gauge can't be "dialed in" as they can with another product; the gauge must be unclamped, adjusted slightly and re-clamped, hopefully in the right position and without the board sliding behind the gauge. Still a worthwhile product despite what we thought was a somewhat high price.

Indispensable - Ed Everett -
Being a life-long sceptic, I wasn't sure I needed these to complete my siding project. Boy, was I wrong. They are invaluable whether you are siding with a helper or by yourself. I had made some jigs to aid in maintaining a consistent reveal while installing the siding, but they required that you hold the jig and the siding, a tiring prospect, especially at the end of the day when you are 25' high on a ladder. So, despite the seemingly high price for these devices, I wouldn't look back in a second.
